Movie Review: The Hitman’s Bodyguard

I personally believe there is nothing better than getting some popcorn, an icee and sitting in the comfortable reclining chairs at the movie theater as you watch a movie. It is especially great if you watch one of the best movies you have seen in a while.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard is definitely taking a spot on my top favorite movies list. There is a mix of action, adventure, comedy and a hint of romance which make up the perfect recipe for an amazing movie. The directors and actors did a fantastic job on the effects, so it feels like you are a character in the film as well.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard is not just any special agent movie. The world’s top bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) gets a new client (Samuel L. Jackson) who has to testify to the International Court of Justice.

Reynolds plays as a top bodyguard who plays it safe wherever he goes to make sure that the person he’s protecting is safe. While Jackson plays a reckless person who enjoys breaking the rules. The two very different characters come together and put their differences aside to make it to the trial on time. The action scenes are intense and captured effectively as so, whether it is in the form of high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades or a merciless Eastern European dictator out for blood.

The comedy aspect is one that caters to those who like the sarcastic and swearing variety. The sly comments added by Jackson’s character, regarding his catch phrase in particular, is one of the highlights of the film that seemed to have everyone in the room roaring with laughter.

The music choices that were selected for the movie complemented it perfectly. It went from the song Hello by Lionel Richie, to The Sign by Ace Of Base, and even to Black Betty by Leadbelly (which I ended up jamming out to in the car on my way home after watching the movie). Though all the songs were created before 1995, they’re songs that most people have heard at least once in their life.

Reynolds and Jackson are soon-to-be an iconic duo that you probably did not see coming. The differences in the characters’ dynamic personalities create a tantalizing chemistry that is an absolute joy to witness in the theater and is the foundation of the hilarious, yet action-packed film.

I decided to give this movie a definite 5 stars. I’m the kind of person that loves comedy/action movies and it was a plus that my boy Ryan Reynolds was in it too. I went from gasping because something insane happened, to laughing so hard I could barely breathe. If you’re into those kinds of movies, I would definitely recommend this movie for you.
