Newspaper staff members win in state journalism contest

Four Beak ‘n’ Eye newspaper editors have won awards in the 2016 Spring Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Iowa High School Press Association.

Caylla Townsley, senior, won second place in the personality profile contest for her story “New principal doesn’t fit the mold.” Ryan Hayes, senior, won second place in news magazine multiple page design for “The shadow of mental illness.” Kate Kealey won honorable mention in multiple page design for “Getting in style.” Michael Leese, a 2015 grad, won third place in staff editorials for “Fix the unfair funding to schools.”

The students will receive certificates for their honors from their adviser Steve Lyle.
