How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨It is really exciting because I’ve wanted to be on homecoming court ever since I was a freshman.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was like ‘I have to tell my mom!’ because my mom really wanted me to be on it too. I called her right after I found out. She texted everybody and posted it on Facebook.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I don’t really know if I deserve to be on court, but I’m pretty involved with the school.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I play volleyball and tennis. I help with blood drive. I’m also really involved with my church. My mom and I do a lot of volunteer work with Race for the Cure and other random volunteer work.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I want to be a speech pathologist or a teacher, they don’t get paid that much anyway. I really like working with kids. Also, my freshman year I took Intro to Health Sciences. We went to St. Ambrose and explored the Speech Language Pathology program. I just really had an interest in it after that.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I really want to travel outside of the country, but I have not. I would want to go to Punta Cana.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨Probably tell a lot of people stuff that I normally wouldn’t really tell them and then just do adventurous stuff. Live life to the fullest, got to do what you got to do in one day.¨

How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m excited, mainly because I know everyone on court this year, being a senior. So I am excited to spend the next two weeks with them.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was really surprised. I never really thought about myself making it, I just thought about my friends making it, so I was surprised when I heard my own name.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨A lot of people know me through dance and cheer. But I feel like I got more teacher votes from being in student senate. I am involved in a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that not everyone else sees. So I know that administration and teachers see me in that way.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨In school, I have been in student senate all four years, dance team for three years and cheer for four years. And outside of school I don’t really do anything else. I bowl on a league with a couple other girls at Leisure Lanes.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
What I want to do right now is basically what Mrs. O’Hare does. She is a social worker but in a school building. She is not necessarily a counselor, so she doesn’t do schedules or anything. She actually helps the students one-on-one and does projects such as the food pantry. I want to stay somewhere in the Quad Cities.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I would say travel somewhere different because normally when I travel I go to Florida. If I could go anywhere I would go to Colorado. I like to take pictures and visit scenic views. I think Colorado would be a good place to go for that. Also I really like nature and Colorado is very pretty. I’m not really a city person.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨If I had one day left to live, I would probably adopt every dog that I could. Then give them away. Be like ‘Who wants a dog?’. Or let them free on a farm or something.¨

How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m very excited and flattered to be on it.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was very happy.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I think I respect everyone and treat everybody equally. I am nice to everyone.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨At school I dance, cheer, play golf and I’m in National Honor Society. I work at the Handicapped Development Center as a resident’s assistant outside of school. I thought this job would be good background for knowledge for what I want to do when I am older. I want to be a nurse.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I still think I would be a nurse. I just really like to help people and I want to make a difference in the world.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨Travel overseas. I would go to Spain.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨Probably just hangout with my family. Say my last goodbyes before I die. They are nice to me sometimes and they mean a lot to me so I would want to say bye to them before I die. ¨
Lily Hancock
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I am really excited and happy. I feel really great that a lot of kids in my grade like me enough to nominate me, so that’s cool.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was surprised.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I am really involved and I put a lot of time into this school. It’s deserving for that reason and I feel like I am a pretty nice person too.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I am in show choir, color guard and National Honor Society. I am a Junior Rotarian and the senior class president. I am also in drama club and really involved in theatre. Outside of school I work a lot at Me and Billy. That usually takes up my time outside of school. I’m involved at my church and hangout with my friends.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨To be on Broadway because I love performing. Every minute I am on the stage I love it. I love performing in front of an audience. It is definitely my favorite thing to do. Grabbing everybody’s attention, everyone’s eyes are on you. There are so many things you can do with a show; you can make people laugh, cry, feel anything.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨Skydive. I want to skydive so bad. I am going to next summer. I’m not afraid of heights like most people are and I just think I would be such a thrill. I would love to be able to fly. Skydiving is probably the closest thing to it. That or hang gliding.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨The first thing that popped into my head was go see all my family members. I guess I would tell them bye. They are so supportive and proud of me with everything I have done here and it’s always a good time with them. They are my favorite people.¨
Tessa Hicks
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨Being the only black girl is kind of cool. I had a lot of people saying ‘Vote Tessa Hicks’ but being in this school, I’m not that popular or anything, so I was surprised.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was like ‘Did they really say my name? Tessa Hicks, is that me?’.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I support the school. And I am a good person and try to be nice to everybody.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I’m involved in basketball, track and the INSPIRE program. I’m doing robotics. I did cross country. I don’t really have a lot of free time. I have practice then I go to work. I work at Hyvee.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I want to be a computer software engineer and either work for Microsoft or Google.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨Go on a boat in the middle of the ocean. That’s my biggest fear too.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨I would want to meet Usain Bolt and Beyoncé.¨
Olivia Wilber
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I feel really excited, I honestly didn’t think I was going to make it. My friends were like ‘Let’s vote for Olivia’ and I was like ‘Haha, sure Jan’. Then it happened.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I was like ‘Oh my god, I made it. That’s something, that’s new.’ I’m not quite certain I’ll make homecoming queen, but it’s still really exciting to be on court.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I work hard. I have a lot of friends. I don’t mean to say that like I’m a popular person. I feel like they [friends] like me and want me to try my best.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I’m involved in band, drama club, and that’s about it for here. At home I’m not really involved in clubs or anything. I play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends and draw.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨Probably acting if I could make it there. I do really like acting and being in that stuff. It’d be pretty cool.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I don’t know, skydive. I’ve done a lot. I’m not really greedy with what I want to do, I just want to live the best life I can. To live comfortably, have a stable job, stable income and be able to enjoy the simple things in life.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨Probably travel to places I want to go. That’s not much to do in a day but nearby places. Like beaches and popular food places, especially stuff with sushi because I love sushi.¨
Addison Flynn
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m excited and surprised.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I’m really stressed out about it because I wasn’t planning on going to Homecoming. So now I need to find a homecoming dress for the presentation aud and a date because my boyfriend can’t come back from college.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I’m really involved in the school, not only athletics, but clubs. I have a wide group of friends and I think that I’m nice. I like to say I’m nice to people and outgoing.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨Outside of school I’m involved in dance. I take classes and teach classes there. I also work at Whitey’s. In school I’m on the cheer team, dance team, golf team, student senate and yearbook. I’m a senior class officer and I’m involved in a lot of clubs.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I want to be a teacher. They already don’t make that much money. I really like helping kids and feeling like I’m doing something for people. I want to be a teacher at a low income school so that I can teach those kids.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I’ve always wanted to be on a competitive sports team, not just like cheer or dance, but an actual sport. But I don’t like those sports, I can’t do them, but I wish I had the whole game day experience of not just cheering but playing the sport.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨I would pet my dog and I would take him for a walk because I love my dog. His name is Barley and he’s a yellow lab.¨
Mia Nelson
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m surprised honestly. Transfering here I didn’t think a lot of people knew me. I’m shocked that people know who I am.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨Honestly just that I was super excited for my friends. I was still excited for them so I did not expect to hear my name.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I think it means a lot because I’ve tried to be nice to everybody, coming into this school and not knowing anyone, I’ve tried to leave a positive impact.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨At school dance team, senate, blood drive, National Honor Society and Spanish club. I dance for a studio called Above the Bar. Then I work at Dunn Brothers.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I think it would be really fun to be a brain doctor because brains are super cool. If I could just look at brains and study brains that would be cool but that’s a lot of school.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I’ve traveled a bunch but I’ve never seen any mountains so I want to hike on mountains. I’ve seen beaches more than I’ve seen mountains and I think mountains are so awesome. I just want to climb up them. I might go to Colorado this summer.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨I would probably hangout with my grandma if we’re being honest. I like my grandma. We usually go to the movies and get our nails done. I would spend the whole day with her. I love my grandma so much.¨
Alexa Christiansen
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I am shocked. The story is, when we were casting our votes for nomination I had some of the robotics boys in front of me and Brandon Seamer said ‘hey vote for her’. He was trying to do it out of spite because he thought I wouldn’t be down for it. But of course I was down for it. I’m always down to dress up and make a fool out of myself. I’m very excited.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨Well I heard the first two people, like yeah okay this makes sense. But once I heard my name I just sort of heard white noise, that’s why I don’t know who else made it.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I’m very active in what I do. Everyone thinks robotics is just nerdy stuff. We give back to the community. I’ve done a lot cool things in my high school career with West. I’m a world champion twice in a row for robotics.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨A dog mom. I would just take care of dogs all the time. I wouldn’t have to talk to anyone. I would just hangout with dogs. But money does matter so I want to do engineering.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I’ve done a lot of stuff. I don’t want much. I’m very simple. I want to go to all 50 states. I’ve been to a lot of them but not all. I’ve been to West Virginia, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, North and South Carolina, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨I’d go on a really long road trip. That’s what I would do because I would want to go see all my family before I died. They are all over the country so it would be a long road trip so I’d just start driving.¨
Emma Bernick
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m really flattered that the senior class voted me onto court and I’m excited to see what opportunities that it brings.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨Honestly, I couldn’t really hear the announcements so I didn’t know until someone came up to me and said congrats. I was like ‘what’ and they told me. Finding out that I was nominated made me feel happy and appreciated.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I think I’m involved in a lot of activities throughout the school and school has always been a really big priority in my life so people probably recognize me from the difference activities that I’m in. I think that our court this year has a really diverse group of girls. We’re all involved in a lot of different activities. I think it will be good because of the different societal groups and clubs are represented throughout the court.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I am the media editor for the Beak ‘n’ Eye newspaper and a member of the Quill and Scroll Journalism Honors Society. At school I participate in blood drive committee, tennis, Leo Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society and I‘m a Junior Rotarian. I work at Animal Family Veterinary Care Center and I volunteer in the postpartum unit of the birth center at Genesis East Hospital. Also I spend a lot of my time driving my siblings around, too.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨Honestly, if money didn’t matter I would still probably be doing what I plan to do which is go into public health. A lot of the jobs on the market right now don’t pay a lot because most people work for non profits. But people who work in the public/global health system make a big impact on a lot of people in the world. Also it compiles my interests of politics, medicine, traveling and it would also be doing something with Spanish, which is what I plan to do anyway.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I’ve never participated in any of the art classes at the school and I think art is really fun. I wish I would have done that, if I could go back and do that over again. Or I would want to take an art class in the future.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨The first thing I would do is buy a plane ticket to Peru. I’ve always wanted to go to Machu Picchu and I just know that that’s a place that I’ve always want to go. I think Incan civilization and the history behind it is really fascinating.¨
Leah Anderson
How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m excited because I have friendships with everyone on court, so it’s just really exciting.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨Well I was taking a shower after gym and I came out of the shower and the water was still running so I couldn’t hear very well but I ran. But then I thought it was exciting and I wanted to tell my mom. I was excited for everyone else that made it too.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I try to stay really involved in the school. It helps to have teammates to be there and vote for you. I’m just in it for the good time, not to win or anything.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I’m on dance team, volleyball team and I play golf. I’m in Falcon Friends and WINGS. I’m editor in chief for the yearbook.¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨I would love to go into cosmetology but that mony is not enough for me. But I do want to go into something medical, too.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I wish I could play basketball or run track. I admire girls that can be super athletic. That would be cool.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨Hop on a plane to anywhere. I would go to Greece or something. Somewhere cool.¨

How do you feel about making homecoming court?
¨I’m super excited to be a part of it.¨
What first went through your head when you found out you made court?
¨I actually wasn’t at school when they announced it, so I had everyone texting me saying congrats, it was an exciting experience.¨
Why do you think you deserve this role of being on court?
¨I don’t know if I’d say I deserve it but I’m active in the school, the community and I’m pretty outgoing.¨
What are you involved in at home and at school?
¨I live in Buffalo, which is a pretty small town so I help with a lot of the school functions and things that the town runs like Buffalo Days ¨
If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?
¨Right now I’m pretty set on being a teacher. Any job where I’m working with kids is what I want to do.¨
What is something you have always wanted to do but never done?
¨I’ve always wanted to dive with sharks, but I’m scared to.¨
If you had one day left to live, what is the first thing you would do?
¨The first thing I would do is spend the rest of my time with my family, but more specifically my brother because he’s my best friend and means the world to me.¨
*The homecoming parade and bonfire is Sept. 13. The 2018 queen will be crowned at the bonfire on the West High track before the bonfire.
