Recently a new opportunity has formed for the Iowa Dance Community. Talented dancers from all over the community now have the opportunity to compete for a spot to represent Iowa’s most prestigious dancers. One of West High School’s Diamond Dancers, junior Addison Aleksiejzck, earned her spot on the Miss Iowa Dance Team.
Miss Iowa is a dance-based event which provides an opportunity for dancers representing their high school dance team as a soloist. There is a wide variety of categories and soloists from all around Iowa, competing for a chance to be a part of the Miss Iowa Dance Team. If elected Miss Iowa, the dancer has an opportunity to compete at The National Miss Dance Drill Team USA nationals in California.
“I was excited when I found out about the Miss Iowa dance event because it would boost my chances of dancing in college. My top goal is to be a dancer for the University of Iowa dance team,” junior Addison Aleksiejzck said.
On November 4th Aleksiejzck traveled to Iowa City West High School to compete in the Miss Iowa Competition. That following day she also had a dance competition where she dedicated her day driving back and forth.
“It was a wreck, driving back and forth was crazy. I performed my solo at the QC Legacy Competition at Davenport Central and then quickly drove to Iowa City to compete for Miss Iowa and back to Davenport Central to compete as a team,” junior Aleksiejzsk said.
That following day she received the news from her coaches and teammates. Her talent is an inspiration to many.
“I was over the moon for her. She’s put so much hard work and dedication into dance. In my opinion she would be the first person to deserve it. She’s also my biggest inspiration, so I’m just so happy for her,” junior Peyton Aleksiejzck said.
Having a support system can be very beneficial. Addison’s coach has seen her develop since she was a toddler and is amazed with her growth.
“Addi is a prime example of how hard work, dedication, and passion can lead to success. She committed to dancing competitively at a young age and has used every opportunity to grow. Addi is very coachable and dedicated both inside and outside of practice, and I believe it has led her to where she is today,” coach Samantha Stahle said.
