On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, who was a right-wing political activist that in 2012 co-founded the conservative organization Turning Point USA and hosted a radio show called The Charlie Kirk Show was fatally shot while hosting an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah as part of his American Comeback Tour.
According to NBC News, Tyler Robinson, 22, has appeared in court virtually after being arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10. Robinson used a high-powered Mauser 98 .30-06 rifle that had a scope mounted on it to assassinate Kirk with one bullet. He was able to access a rooftop from about 200 yards away because of an open stairwell on UVU’s campus. They found the weapon in a wooded area north of campus but the manhunt for Robinson lasted 33 hours before family members recognized him and got him to turn himself in to the authorities. Prosecutors are seeking to give Robinson the death penalty for these crimes.
Multiple vigils and memorials have been set up to remember Kirk throughout the United States, including one at Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.
According to BBC News, Kirk’s funeral, where multiple officials will give statements including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, will be held on Sunday September 21, 2025 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the National Football League (NFL)’s Arizona Cardinals.
