Dave’s Hot Chicken is coming for the spice crown. What started out as an entrepreneurial venture among a group of four friends in a California parking lot in 2017, has now become a strong competitor for the top food chains such as KFC, Popeyes, and Chick-fil-A. On November 8th, a new location opened in Davenport and is becoming very popular, quite quickly. Their hours consist of 11am-11pm all through the week, however holidays may differ. So if you’re craving some spicy midnight snacks this place has got you covered.
Though they have just entered the eyes of Davenport residents they are definitely not new. They have many locations in various states like: Arizona, California, Colorado, New York, Texas, and many more. According to reporter Andrew Sheldon, Dave’s Hot Chicken has vastly increased their franchising, potentially making them the fastest growing restaurant in the world.
Teen’s and their families are waiting in extremely lengthy lines, just to get a taste of Dave’s chicken creations. They serve not only tenders, but they also offer sliders. There are multiple mouth watering sides like Mac & Cheese, kale slaw, fries, and cheese fries. In addition, they also have multiple levels of spice intensity, ranging from No Spice, to Reaper.
According to sophomore Reagan Walker, “Dave’s Hot Chicken is definitely the best place to go if you want chicken, though I haven’t been to many places. My go-to order is the mild two finger meal, I highly recommend it to others going for the first time. The only critique I have is the time it takes to get your food. Other than that I rate Dave’s a 9 out of 10!”
Some believe it isn’t as good as everyone says, “Everyone always brings up the spice and what not, but the flavor of the food itself is terrible. There is no flavor whatsoever. It is definitely not on my radar or top chicken restaurants, and I will most likely not be going back,” sophomore Preslee Timmons said.
Many students have yet to learn about this new hot spot, “I am definitely interested in trying their food, because chicken strips are one of my favorite things to get at fast food restaurants. However it seems really over hyped, another thing is the price, one meal can be up to like twenty dollars. I don’t think it will become as popular as say Starbucks or Atomic but I do think people will go through the phase of something new coming to Davenport,” junior Lillian Bauske said.
This rapidly growing restaurant chain is catching the eyes of many, the real question is for how long? Some students are saying that they hope they decide to stick around here, so they can enjoy it for many years to come.
