Falcon Friends sponsors weight-lifting contest

If you’re too slow to win at dodge ball, but strong enough to lift a piano, keep Nov. 7 open. That’s when the Falcon Friends club is sponsoring a bench press competition to raise funds for the year.

“We thought having a bench press competition would be a good way for the West High Community to come together for a unique athletic event,” adviser Stephanie Iavarone said. “Typically, we have dodge ball and basketball fundraisers, and we wanted to stand apart from the rest in this new bench pressing endeavor. Plus, my dad was a world champion powerlifter, so I have some background knowledge about bench pressing.”

Trophies go to the top two winners in each weight class in each division: Teen Male, Teen Female, Adult Male and Adult Female.

Weigh-ins and warm-ups are at 9:30 a.m. and competition starts at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Forms and fees are due by Oct. 30 in the Activities Office. Details and entry forms are available at Falcon Friends Bench Press Form

The proceeds go to the Falcon Friends and the Bill Reagan Scholarship Fund. Falcon Friends does activities to make all types of students feel included at West High.
