Twenty-three acts entertained an appreciative audience at the Charity Week Variety Show on May 2 in the West High auditorium.
Several vocal soloists performed on a stage lit with colorful strobes and multimedia projections. Other acts included the drumline, dance team, a heavy metal band and a martial arts demonstration. Seven emcees performed humorous sketches between acts.
Afterwards, the audience voted on its favorite act. The winner was Carina Grady, who performed a violin solo of “River Flows in You,” accompanied by pianist Alex Reed. Second place was an energetic, glow stick performance of Motley Crue’s “Kick Start My Heart,” and third place was the percussive talents of the West High drum line.
Student Senate raised $3,400 from the event, which will be donated to the Children’s Therapy Center.
“The show was high energy and lots of fun,” adviser Jodi Zimmerman said. “Great talent was showcased by many seniors…we are really going to miss the drum line.”
