Go Falcons Go! is what we said when we sent off our boys in red, filled with confidence and school spirit. Before the kick off ever went underway, we held a prep rally for our seniors, football teams, and other fall sports teams. The pep rally showed off our West band beating their drums, to our cheer and dance teams wiping the floor with their clean moves. Though the pep rally didn’t go as smoothly as we hoped.
The microphone from our brand new sound system did not project the way we expected it to. “They had to adjust it, but me nor the people who came to help didn’t know how to adjust the knobs on this big panel, to get the outlets to work. We have one outlet that does the wireless mic and another outlet that does a wired mic, they have to have different settings because they work differently. I wish I could have an aud on Friday, just to prove that it works,” Athletic Director Michelle Lillis said.
To even freshmen pulling a few pranks, one of them consisted of “throwing things at other people,” senior Evan Harris said. Even though there were a few problems and technical difficulties, the pep rally continued to inform and hype up our students.
The vibe was a huge thanks to our announcer and personal hype woman, Ms. Coyne-Logan. “I couldn’t believe the amount of kids that yelled back when they couldn’t even hear me. I think that was a win for West. West is best. After all, those kids navigated the fact they couldn’t understand they still tried to participate,” Coyne-Logan said.
Even freshmen were engaged and chanting but, some things were new to the freshmen. Some even were surprised about a couple of things like “The mascot, I didn’t know we had a mascot,” freshmen Damiya Combs said. The dancers surprised Freshman Sophia Bakich.
Even though in the end we lost the game, we went into it full of confidence and school spirit and are reassured that the new sound system is ready for the next time. “They came back again yesterday, and I can promise it is super loud,” Lilis said.
