Senior Logan McBee donates a double unit (two pints) of blood for his second time to become a gallon donor at the West High Student Blood Drive on Sept. 10 in the West Family Y gym.

The first blood drive was a success, with 230 students signing up to donate and save a life.

Students came to the West Family Y gym on Sept. 10 to check in during Blocks 1, 2 or 3. The student helpers and staff checked to make sure donors had eaten and were hydrated.  After students answered a questionnaire, nurses took their temperature and iron level.

A few students were turned down for having low iron or being in sports. Otherwise everyone gave their all and the best they could.

If you are 16 or over, you can do the next blood drive in December.
